Palampur : Popular messaging platform WhatsApp is once again facing backlash from frustrated users over what they describe as repeated, unexplained bans of their accounts. Despite no suspicious or inappropriate activity, users are being locked out of their accounts multiple times, often without clear explanation — only to endure long waiting periods for restoration before the cycle begins again.
Several users have reported being banned two or more times in short intervals, even after their accounts were reviewed and reinstated. The most troubling part, according to them, is the mental toll it takes.
“I use WhatsApp for both personal and work communication. Getting banned without reason, waiting days for it to be restored, and then getting banned again is exhausting,” said one user, who requested anonymity. “There’s no clarity, no support — just automated responses and lost time.”
WhatsApp typically cites violations of its “Terms of Service” for banning accounts, but many affected users claim they have done nothing wrong. There is growing concern about WhatsApp’s lack of transparency in handling bans and appeals.
While the Meta-owned company has not released a public statement on the recent wave of account suspensions, users continue to voice their frustration on social media, calling the process arbitrary and emotionally draining.
Cybersecurity experts believe the issue may lie in automated moderation systems that wrongly flag accounts. “False positives are common when platforms rely too heavily on automation,” said a digital rights advocate. “What’s concerning is the lack of proper redress mechanisms.”
Users are urging WhatsApp to improve its support system, provide clearer communication regarding bans, and ensure that innocent users aren’t repeatedly penalized.
Until then, for many, WhatsApp — once a reliable lifeline — is becoming an ongoing source of stress and disruption.
