Stray Bulls Turn Deadly Menace Across Kangra, Urgent Action Demanded by Public

Bhawarna, June 5 – Stray bulls have become a serious threat to life, property, and traffic safety across various parts of Kangra district, with rising incidents of attacks, accidents, and destruction of crops. Roaming freely on national highways, link roads, residential streets, and even near school premises, these aggressive animals are posing a daily danger to schoolchildren, elderly citizens, women, and commuters.

In one such alarming incident on Tuesday, senior journalist and our correspondent Dalip Jamwal narrowly escaped with his life after a stray bull collided with his scooty in the Bhawarna area. The vehicle was badly damaged, and the situation could have turned fatal. Many such cases have surfaced in recent months, with several locals sustaining injuries and at least a few reported deaths due to bull attacks or accidents caused by sudden road obstruction by these animals.

Residents across Panchrukhi, Bhawarna, Palampur, and surrounding rural belts are anguished and anxious. Farmers are also facing heavy losses as bulls destroy their fields during the night, uprooting standing crops and trampling vegetable beds. Despite repeated complaints, the administration has not implemented any effective strategy to contain the menace.

“Stray bulls are a growing threat to innocent lives and must be dealt with seriously,” said Mr. Hemraj Bairwa, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Kangra, when approached with the issue. He has assured that the district administration will explore solutions, including creating temporary shelters or tie-ups with NGOs and Gaushalas for safe relocation of these animals. However, the public is demanding immediate and concrete action before more lives are lost.

“It is not just an inconvenience but a threat to public safety. Imagine a child walking to school being attacked or a two-wheeler rider crashing at night due to an unseen bull,” said local resident Sushma Devi of Bhawarna.

The problem is not new but has worsened over time due to lack of sustained attention and enforcement. The district needs a long-term, humane yet effective solution involving public participation, veterinary support, and policy intervention.

The ball is now in the court of the administration. How long will the innocent continue to suffer.
